Women's Counseling Center
While it should go without saying that all migrant labourers are vulnerable to abuse, female workers are routinely harassed—sexually and emotionally—by employers, family members, and domestic partners. Even worse, society often does not believe women’s complaints of abuse, dismissing them as either fabrications or actions warranted by a woman’s choice to leave the household.
In line with our goal of women’s empowerment, Jan-Daksha Trust has established a women’s counseling center to reach out to female labourers who have suffered emotional, physical, or sexual harassment. We listen to these women and provide them support, be it in the form of legal action, emotional counseling, or assistance in moving to local women’s shelters or health centers. Additionally, we work to resolve many of the familial disputes these women face through family counseling and other legal services.
We have disseminated a wealth of information regarding the women’s counseling center throughout Udaipur. Many women now visit the center regularly, and we have resolved more than 25 abuse cases with women.
